About – Kameshia Ward
Kameshia K. Ward, affectionately known as Mama Ward, proudly serves as the Principal of Hansberry College Prep, where she began her journey as a teacher intern in 2014. Over the past decade, she has held several leadership roles, including IB Coordinator, grade-level lead, and Dean of College & Career Counseling, before stepping into her calling to lead the entire school community. Known for her loving, energetic, and joyful demeanor, Kameshia leads with a deep belief that Hansberry¡¯s students, staff, and families are unique and deserve a leader who truly understands them, is committed to their excellence, and follows through with integrity and purpose.
As principal, her priorities are clear: to ensure a physically safe school, to drive high academic achievement, and to cultivate a strong sense of belonging for every student. Guided by Hansberry¡¯s vision, Kameshia works tirelessly to turn this belief into a daily reality.
Rooted in her Jamaican upbringing and immense faith, she approaches leadership with a spirit of excellence and intentionality. As a proud Howard University alumna, Kameshia¡¯s love for Black culture remains central to her work, particularly in creating equitable outcomes for Black males and empowering students to speak truth to power. Married for 16 years and a mother of two boys, she treasures her family as her greatest blessing and believes that every seed she sows in her community will bear good fruit.
